The Art of Italian Fine Yarns: Inside Our 70-Year Family Tradition

Italiana Filati Pregiati is a deposit of fine and extra-fine yarns. In our warehouse, you can always find new products in cashmere, angora, silk, mohair, merino wool, alpaca, linen, cotton, and more — in pure compositions and blended, across a rich variety of colors and thicknesses, in packages ideal for both machine and hand processing.

Who We Are

We are a family business born in the sector of recycling natural fiber yarns and selling high-fashion Italian fabrics. Over the decades, we have specialized in buying and selling stocks of the best brands of fine made-in-Italy yarn. Today we maintain a vast assortment of pure cashmere yarns, always in continuous exchange, at half the price compared to store prices.

Being a wholesale warehouse, our customers are generally artisans and knitwear factories, to whom we offer many products at special prices. However, we welcome all buyers — from large manufacturers to individual crafters — with no minimum order quantities.

Our Italian Mill Partnerships

The main activity of our company is the buying and selling of fine yarns from stock for knitwear. For this, we collaborate with the most important producers in Italy:

  • Loro Piana — world-renowned for the finest cashmere and vicuña
  • Zegna Baruffa — leaders in premium merino and blended yarns
  • Cariaggi — famous for their Jaipur cashmere-silk blend
  • Biagioli Modesto — masters of fine cashmere spinning
  • Lana Gatto — excellence in Italian wool processing
  • Millefili — specialists in innovative yarn compositions
  • T&D — premium Italian yarn manufacturing

You will always find in stock the best of the production of fine Italian yarns — therefore the best of the textile industry and high fashion in the world.

What We Offer

Winter Yarns

Our winter collection includes the finest fibers processed by Italian mills:

  • Cashmere yarns — pure and blended, from the world's leading Italian processors
  • Merino wool — superfine Italian-processed Australian merino
  • Yak fiber — the Himalayan treasure, combining cashmere softness with merino finesse
  • Alpaca — hypoallergenic fibers from South American highlands
  • Mohair — lustrous kid mohair and mohair blends
  • Camel — naturally golden, water-repellent luxury fiber
  • Angora — extraordinarily warm rabbit fiber blends

Summer Yarns

For warm-weather collections, we stock:

  • Cotton — Egyptian and Peruvian, Italian-processed
  • Linen — pure and blended, for timeless summer elegance
  • Silk — pure silk and silk blend yarns with incomparable luster

Yarn Formats

We exclusively sell yarn from stock in bobbins which are rigorously controlled, inventoried, and conditioned with care based on quality, composition, and count. The yarn can be sold both in whole batches and in single cones. Single cones generally weigh from 500 to 1,000 grams, making them an excellent choice also for haberdashery and knitting yarn dealers who buy wholesale.

How We Work

We have won the trust of Italian and foreign customers by guaranteeing a high quality product, carefully selected, always made in Italy, and also suitable for the international retail of fine yarn.

Beyond quality, our strengths are:

1. Honesty and seriousness — transparent pricing and accurate descriptions 2. Accuracy — meticulous checking and preparation of every yarn order 3. Speed — fast shipping and payment processing 4. Flexibility — no minimum orders, exchange policy for any problems 5. Value — premium yarns at stock prices, typically 50% below retail

The yarns can be purchased in the desired quantity, without any weight limit. Our goal is to satisfy the customer's needs, and we always offer you the possibility to exchange goods in case of problems.

Our Stock Pricing Advantage

What sets us apart in the market is our sourcing model. We purchase stock lots directly from Italian mills — surplus production from the same production lines that supply prestigious fashion houses. The yarn is identical quality to what you would find at full retail; the savings come from our direct relationships and bulk purchasing, not from any compromise in quality.

This means you can work with the same materials used by the world's leading fashion brands, at prices that make these premium fibers accessible to artisans, small studios, and individual knitters alike.

We Also Buy

We buy yarn all over Italy from garment manufacturers, knitwear factories, or spinning mills with immediate payment. If you have surplus premium yarn stock to sell, we are always interested in expanding our offerings.

The Biella Textile District: Where Our Yarns Come From

The majority of the premium yarns we stock originate from Italy's legendary Biella textile district in Piedmont. This region has been the heart of Italian textile manufacturing for centuries, and for good reason:

  • Pure Alpine water — the streams flowing from the Alps provide exceptionally pure, soft water essential for washing and finishing luxury fibers
  • Centuries of expertise — spinning and weaving knowledge passed down through generations of artisan families
  • Concentration of excellence — the world's leading yarn producers are clustered within this small region, creating an ecosystem of quality and innovation
  • Climate — the cool, humid mountain climate is ideal for working with natural fibers

When you purchase yarn from our warehouse, you are accessing the output of this remarkable tradition — the same yarns that supply Milan, Paris, and London fashion houses.

Understanding Yarn Count (Nm)

All of our yarns are classified using the European Nm (Number Metric) system, which indicates how many meters of yarn weigh one gram. This is a crucial specification for anyone working with yarn:

  • Higher Nm = finer yarn — Nm 2/48 is finer than Nm 2/28
  • The first number indicates the number of plies (e.g., 2-ply, 3-ply)
  • The second number indicates the single-yarn fineness

For example, an Nm 2/28 cashmere means a 2-ply yarn where each single strand is 28,000 meters per kilogram. Understanding Nm helps you choose the right yarn for your gauge and project requirements.

Why Choose Stock Yarns

Our business model of purchasing stock lots offers advantages beyond just price:

1. Access to discontinued colors — mills regularly change their color ranges, and stock lots often include beautiful shades that are no longer in regular production 2. Large lot availability — stock purchases often yield large quantities of a single lot, perfect for production runs 3. Proven quality — stock yarns have already been produced and quality-tested; you can see and feel exactly what you are buying 4. Sustainability — by purchasing surplus production, we prevent waste and give these beautiful yarns the life they deserve
